This would have been a fun topic to write a full newsletter issue on (turns out raising money and finding love in Brazil would be pretty popular), but instead it’s just a reference to my being down in S. America for my friend who raised money and met his fiance in Brazil :)

I’m in Brazil - come say hi 👋

You might not expect it from a Taiwanese-American guy raised in Virginia, but I strangely have a lot of friends in Brazil. Two of those friends are close enough that I’ve been invited to their weddings. The first is tomorrow and the second is the first week of December (the opposite of calendar density). When I saw that schedule I made the very easy decision to spend the whole month in Brazil which is already one of my favorite countries!  

I have a best man speech that needs to be written so I can’t use my limited writing cycles on a lengthy post this week, but I will say a couple things:

1. The heat around the startup ecosystem in South America is incredible. I’ve already met the founders of some incredible companies in just the first few days of being here. I will devote a fuller essay to my thoughts on starting companies in South America and raising capital.

2. I’m hosting an awesome event in São Paulo on Nov 25th for founders and investors. We’ll be doing a live taping of Funded with the founder of SproutFi, a YC-backed company in Brazil.
